Reviewing test mockup

PERRYLEE 2020. 8. 24. 10:44

Hi!

It's me Perry again here.

Today im going to talk about how to provide comments on tech-pack especially based on test mockup which is reviewing shape and details before we move to the 1st proto.

The 1st proto is so important before we understand and feel it right hence test mock up needs to be detailed as much as you can.

once i received it, immediately do cross check with provided tech-pack to factory so it allows to lead both parties (designer and factory) are keep in alligning. i usually do commenting in different colors based on the date i provided.

as you can see few examples below, black is showing previous tech-pack as itself and the red is showing the updated comments i will provide to team and factory so all of them are clear and staying on the same page.

dont worry, when you got the 1st proto, can issue the new tech-pack with new subject and keep continueing communication.

ok lets go through more details.

there are few steps i usually do as a routine for the test mockup + advises i recommand.

* Routine :

1. get them to the meeting room where i can be competely alone and focus on so NO one is going to bother you as they can see what you are doing. also it helps you to figure out more than you could see around peopele.

2. take a glance at it 5 steps hehind to get an idea what it has been achieved what i was aiming for

3. take a closer look once again and take pictures in multiple perspectives with your phone.

4. start to measure and check techinical details such as sizes, overall shapes, key details i have mentioned.

5. always take a note for the comments what im going to provide and the key is remembering all of them including minors so you can always respond on every questions.

* Advise :

as i mentioned on step #1, people easily get noticed that you did something in the meeting room by yourself. Remember! people's going to check you out how do you think and why is that at anytime and anywhere.

you might have a wonder why? you have to react on that but what are you going to do when the boss asked you on this during lunch, meeting or at any curtain moments? this is going to be your kinda side-kick. Trust me.

* Routine :

6. pulling additional information such as reference pictures, samples and information that you can support it. Frequently facing a problem with factory or technician which is going to dragg you down without these in case.

7. i dont mind to do 3~4 pages of commenting on the tech-pack as long as i do believer its going to make our life easier. not saying that must be but at least keep that in mind spending a time fully i wanted. however you will need to explain again verbally to double check what they are clear.

* Advise :

i would like to advise you to put 1~2 comments to show a appreciation on what the factory or techincian did well into it. if not, at least on the email either in person when you download updated comments. again this is going to be your kinda side-kick. Trust me.

* Routine :

8. finalizing tech-pack with comments, i usually proceed as follwing.

- basic information (date, season, style #) double check and update

- start from left side of tech pack and finalize to right side.

- compacted description or comments

* Advise :

- Provide 1:1 scale sketch for the front view which is going to be a huge pre-step when we review the 1st proto

Ok! these are mostly what im doing and did during the specific process called "reviewing mockup"

We are going to talk about what and how to handle on the 1st proto next time! 😊

Ex) previewing mock up and provide comments.
